ABOUT GRÊMIO FBPA
Grêmio Foot-Ball Porto Alegrense, commonly known as Grêmio, is one of Brazil’s most historic and respected football clubs. Founded in 1903 in Porto Alegre by businessman Cândido Dias da Silva and 32 other pioneers—many from the city’s German immigrant community—Grêmio has become a symbol of tradition, excellence, and footballing passion in southern Brazil.
The club competes in Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, Brazil’s top league, and in the Campeonato Gaúcho, the premier state league of Rio Grande do Sul. Grêmio’s home is the state-of-the-art Arena do Grêmio, inaugurated in 2013, with a capacity of over 55,000. Before that, the club played at the iconic Estádio Olímpico Monumental since 1954.
Grêmio is known worldwide for its iconic tricolor kit—blue, black, and white—which inspired the club’s nickname, Tricolor Gaúcho.
